Procrastination – Is it really worth the effort?

Let’s first look at the definition of the word procrastination, according to the dictionary it means: the action of delaying or postponing something. Ok, so that doesn’t seem like such a bad thing right? You might want to think again.
Procrastination is a complex psychological behavior that affects everyone to some degree or another. With some it can be a minor problem; with others it is a source of considerable stress and anxiety.

The procrastinator is often remarkably optimistic about their ability to complete a task on a tight deadline; this is usually accompanied by expressions of reassurance that everything is under control. For example, they may estimate that a project will take only five days to complete; they have fifteen days; there is plenty of time; no need to start now. Lulled by a false sense of security, time passes. At some point, they cross over any imaginary starting time and suddenly realizes, “Oh no! – I am not in control! There isn’t enough time!”

At this point, considerable effort is directed towards completing the task, and work progresses. This sudden spurt of energy is the source of the erroneous feeling that “I only work well under pressure.” Actually, at this point you are making progress only because you haven’t any choice. Your back is against the wall and there are no alternatives. Progress is being made, but you have lost your freedom.

Barely completed in time, the project may actually pass inspection; whereupon one experiences mixed feelings: pride of accomplishment (sort-of), scorn for the boss who cannot recognize substandard work, and guilt for getting undeserved praise. But the net result is reinforcement: the procrastinator is rewarded positively for their poor behavior. As a result, the counterproductive behavior is repeated over and over again.
Positive reinforcement for delay is a principle contributor to continued procrastination.

So what really makes a person procrastinate? In order to write this article I had to find someone who was a master procrastinator. I had to look no farther than my mirror. I’m very good at what I do, so what I asked myself, “makes me put off until tomorrow or the next day or the next week, doing what I know I should be doing to move forward.”

In my case I’ve been working on a couple of projects: 1) my biography and 2) my healing books. I’ve been working on them for a few years now. Most of the information is downloaded by Spirit and other stuff I’ve learned through reading or taking classes and workshops. I spend countless hours typing diligently on my computer, but nothing ever really seems to materialize.

I find myself playing games on the computer, reading novels, playing more games on the computer…are you getting the picture yet? I know what has to be done, yet I keep coming up with excuses on why I can’t seem to get to it. The cats need attention, the dishes need to be washed and put away, laundry needs to be done, I’m just too tired and the list goes on and on and on.

My guides and angels are getting pretty fed up with me, but they can’t make you do something that you are not yet ready for.

So, now it comes to really looking at why one would procrastinate, if what they are being asked to do would bring them clients, customers and students for their programs and put money in the bank and just make you feel good that you’re helping people. So what’s a person to do – take a good hard look in the mirror and have a talk with the sub-conscious and find out what’s really going on inside.

Possibly the procrastination is coming from a fear of success, fear of being powerful – like oh boy if I do what I’m supposed to people will start to notice me and that might not be such a good thing! I must hide at all cost. So you give your power away, again and again and again.

You curse to the Universe, why haven’t YOU listened to me and given me what I’ve asked for… and the Universe smiles and says, “Ah my child, I have listened and given you what you asked for, I can only give back to you what you put out, so if you put nothing out to help yourself that is what I’m giving back to you.” Darn that Law of Attraction anyway.

Procrastination is a sneaky and insidious master. You think you are in control, but you’re not. Unless you are brave enough and strong enough to break the bonds that have been holding you back you will stay stuck and a slave to that master. As human beings we are meant to live life to the fullest, which also means we are here to clear our energy, of past hurts and programs. Most of these programs come from our childhood, and some come from past lives. Once the program has been identified then and only then can it be healed. This is part of what I work on with students and clients. It is easy to see where the issue lies with them, because I’m not emotionally or mentally connected to their programs. It’s a much different story when it’s your own programs, blocks and beliefs that you are working to heal.

Spirit had been telling me for weeks (ok months) to delete the game off of my phone and I just couldn’t do it (ok didn’t really want to), until this past full moon, which was all about clarity and truth, and I’ll be darned if on Monday morning I didn’t delete that silly game off of my phone (it actually started working much better) and started to write again. You see I finally got to my starting line and crossed over it and realized if the books are to get done then me and only me would or could be the one to write them. It is my story to tell and no one else’s.

So sometimes it takes a boulder being dropped on our heads to wake us up, sometimes a kick in the pants, and sometimes you just get tired of things not moving forward and you start to take responsibility for things not happening in your life the way you believe they should, and you take the bull by the horns and say enough is enough and you just DO IT!! Thank you Universe for the ever so silent nudge and the BIG whisper to get it done and quit the whining.
So do you have problems with procrastination, let me know if I can be of assistance on your journey.

Attitude of Gratitude

Attitude of Gratitude

In the Metaphysical world one hears about Gratitude quite often as a way to raise one’s vibration and shift energy. So what exactly does that mean? How can being grateful about anything raise your vibration.
The definition of gratitude is: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation and to return kindness.
Ok so if we are thankful, we get a good, warm fuzzy feeling inside of us, we start to feel good about ourselves and the Universe we live in and we get more good, warm fuzzy feelings, and our vibration goes up. So where do we start. Start where you feel comfortable. Sometimes we must begin with being grateful for the bed we sleep in, or the breath that is moving in and out of our bodies, or even the food we have to eat. Being thankful for the job you go to everyday that pays for the roof over your head.
There are many things in your life to be grateful for, just look around and pay attention. There is a saying “But for the Grace of God go I.” When you look around and see the homeless, the starving, say a prayer to the Universe to show your appreciation for what you do have and if possible show kindness to those less fortunate. For each act of kindness, the Universe/Source/ Creator notices and in turn more kindness, and appreciation is shown to you.
The object is to keep your energy high and to keep it there. When you are in a state of Love and Gratitude nothing else can enter your field. Anger, fear, and hatred can’t be in a person at the same time as love and gratitude. If you feel your energy dropping, then settle your energy and then tap back into the energy of gratitude.
There are a few ways to help you with shifting your energy:
1. Be grateful for whatever comes into your mind. See how long you can keep the flow going. Do a meditation for 10-15 minutes a day and quiet the mind and tap into the energy of Gratitude around you and see it in your mind’s eye and you will see it in the physical. What you put out to the Universe you will get back tenfold.
2. Create a gratitude notebook – start with being grateful for what you already have. As you write down any positive aspects or gratitude for someone or something you will raise yourself to a higher vibration and be in the position to experience and attract more.
Ex: your health…list all the ways your body works for you.
3. Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. It consists of 4 short sentences and they pack a punch when said consistently. The four sentences are: I’m sorry; please forgive me; thank you; and I love you. These saying’s alone when said with intent will help raise your vibration and remove negative energy from your auric field.
Other than Love, Gratitude is the most powerful energy on the planet. When you are grateful for what you have your energy radiates this out to the Universe, and by the Law of Attraction, you can only receive the same kind of energy in return.
Our thoughts, words and actions determine what we manifest in our lives by sending out this vibration of our consciousness, which attracts to us the people and events who share the same vibration. Keep being thankful for these people and events and reap the benefits of a grateful mind.
As an example from my own life, my temporary assignment that I was on ended and I asked the agency to make sure they got another assignment for me for the next week. I didn’t hear back from them, so I called and the recruiter pretended this was the first that she heard my assignment was over. This created much anger in me and I ranted and trash talked the agency to no end to anyone who would listen.
Did it get me an assignment – NO, if fact just the opposite has happened – they have refused to call me for an assignment and they won’t return my calls. Yes, karma will head their direction, but the point was a lesson from Spirit to me, a test if you will, to see how far I had come in my learning and training. It took a couple of days to “see” what Spirit was teaching me and once I did I immediately sent out Love and Gratitude for the 12 ½ yrs. that I worked for them, and then cut the cords so that I could move on to bigger and better things. I did Ho’oponopono for 2 days to help me regain my balance and get back to a state of Gratitude and Love for myself.
In hind sight the Universe gave me what I had been asking for, the time to work on my books and to get some of my articles written. I send the Universe much Love and Gratitude for the lesson and the opportunity.
So before creating an issue where there might not be one, check in with yourself and see if there is something you have been asking from the Universe. The answer doesn’t always come to us in a way we might think. Spirit always takes every opportunity to help us learn our lessons, if we will just step out of our own way so that we may grow with ease and grace, love and gratitude.
So to the Universe I say thank you, I love you, I’m sorry, Please forgive me. Next time I’ll do a better job of being in a state of gratitude for the roof over my head, the money in the bank, the food I have to eat, the clothes on my back and my car. Simple things that lead to a higher vibration, appreciation for life, kindness to me, and for my friends who were there to listen and not judge. Will it happen again? Probably, hopefully not, but I am human after all. I pray that if there is a next time, the lesson will be learned much faster and it won’t take so long to raise the vibration of the body back to that of Love and Gratitude.
Remember to always Walk in Beauty.

Divine Purpose

This morning started out rather interesting especially with my thought process. You see last night my cousin announced she was retiring next month after working for Kroger for 26 years.  First thought was Congratulations now you’ll have more time to spend up north. Apparently it triggered in me thoughts like holy crap I’m closer to retiring than I’ve really paid attention to; which of course made me look at my own age (yikes!). Other thoughts then started to pop in from the Soul, which is where stuff got interesting.  Thoughts like, only do what makes you happy. If it feels dis-empowering it is, don’t do it.

You are here for a greater purpose than working for peanuts in a job that sucks the life out of you and dis-empowers you.  It went on for some time but during the process I realized the Soul is correct.  We are here on Earth for a very short period of time and as a soul we have a Divine Purpose for being here.  If we follow the guidance of Spirit and our Higher Self we will live a much more purposeful life and in turn be able to help others who might be experiencing some of the same feelings and emotions that we are.

So on that note let’s take a look at one’s Divine Purpose and what it means.  For instance my Divine Purpose is that of bringing Wisdom and Love and Healing to the planet. The way I’m doing that is through writing articles and books, teaching classes and workshops and through it all doing it with Love for me, my clients, and students. My life lesson is Empowerment so once again that is incorporated into everything I do, whether it’s teaching a workshop or listening to a client on the phone or during a healing session. By staying true to my purpose in life and incorporating my life lesson into my work I am making a difference on this planet for humans as well as animals and the planet itself.

So when everyone is following their Soul’s choice of Love, for that is what we all are, no matter how we translate it into our lives, we all make a difference and are here for a reason.  Everyone is important and we all matter to Source, Great Spirit, Great Mystery, God, whatever name you have for the Divine, know that you are special and are sent love from above so that you can pursue your Divine Purpose at this time.

I know I hear you: “but Elena I don’t know what my Divine Purpose is”!  My answer is your Soul knows and if you allow that still small voice in your heart to come out and talk you really will hear the answer.   We get so bogged down in everyday life and worrying about bills, rent, jobs that we forget we are Divine Beings and can manifest anything we choose to us, so do you not think you can’t manifest a talk with the Divine?   The answer is a big YES you can!

My new tag line is: If it doesn’t make your heart sing, don’t do it!!

If you would like some help to determine what your still small voice is saying, please reach out by email or phone for a quick chat and we can determine if working with me would be a good fit.
